Too soon, nothing

Beginnings, pale echoes of each other.

A loss of will.

Tantamount love.

Everything, then too soon, nothing.

Blue grey afternoons through the rain slick, groups of men beneath single shades. Mud flats splattered as they made their slippery way home. Not hers, his. She photographed the tree tops through milky glass and breathed mist. It was their last night together and she couldn’t watch his face. So she stared down a streaming landscape and hoped he wouldn’t lose his will.

It was everything, then too soon, nothing.

Plans laid

On the brink of waving farewell for now, the year at ICP has truly come to a close. Final exhibition on show, graduation commenced, portfolio reviews leaving wreckage in their wake… Flights are booked for imminent departure and a flood of plans are laid for next meetings, domestic and international. “See you in France,” he says, waving as the door shuts.

I make a commitment to New York and buy a home.

Mad tryst

(A fiction)

My god you were the mad tryst. We covered the floor from the TV to the bed with obscure philosophies and nakedness. It never would have worked. You would have burnt me out. So here we are, skirting the peripheries of each other’s awareness. In 4 days, I’ll never walk this room again and the physical memory of how we tangled on the floorboards will be inherited by the next leaseholder.

The ghosts of lovers.

(This isn’t you, but I had no photographs because we never stopped long enough for me to take any)

En route

New York, New York. December 11, 2009 – Last subway ride to class for the year.

Semester 1 done at ICP. How time flies…
Time to make my way back to hot, sunny Australia to spend Christmas scantily-clad on the beach, just as the first biting winds of Winter descend on the city and freeze me to the bone.

Perfect timing, as far as I’m concerned…

Favourite films

A reel from one of my favourite films… as yet unmade and only in my head. A favourite nonetheless.

Oahu, Hawaii – When we were young.

Occasionally, I clutch weakly at the straws of photography to remind myself that some memories are real, alive, breathing… that I was there once, with the sand between my toes and the laughter bubbling up through the saltiness and the sun.

The fresh fragrance of friendships being forged and old ones blossoming anew.

The magic of the Aina.

It was a blur of singing inappropriately, waimea, union bar, poetry, floating face-up in the ocean at sundown, cuddles on a grassy knoll, shore breaks, turkey sandwiches, taro patches, needles and ink, terribly ridiculous conversations, a late night run to Like Like and an even later call back to the beach before bed… two hours of sleep and a rather sad ride to the airport..
